After Ramakrishna’s passing away, Holy Mother went to Vrindaban for a pilgrimage. There she experienced the mood of Radha and restlessly searched for Krishna in the groves of Vrindaban. Later she told a devotee that she had been Radha in a previous incarnation.
Durga Puri narrated the following incident:
Once a Vaishnava priest of the Shitala temple in Garpar, East Calcutta, asked Gauri-ma to accompany him to Vrindaban, the place of Radha and Krishna. She told the priest: “Well, one day I shall show you the living Radharani.” The priest did not understand Gauri-ma’s hint. Then she went to Udbodhan and told Holy Mother what she had said to the priest. As soon as Holy Mother heard the word “living Radharani,” she protested, saying: “Shame on you! Why did you say that, Gaurdasi? Radha was Chinmayi, consciousness personified.”
“You are also the same,” remarked Gauri-ma. After a few days Gauri-ma accompanied the priest to Udbodhan, who at first saw the Mother as an ordinary woman. However, he bowed down to the Mother and then raised his head to see her face. Overwhelmed, he kept on looking at the Mother’s face. He then folded his hands and repeated three times: “Vande Rādhām ānandarupinim—I salute Radha, the embodiment of bliss.”
