स यदशिशिषति यत्पिपासति यन्न रमते ता अस्य दीक्षाः ॥ ३.१७.१ ॥
sa yadaśiśiṣati yatpipāsati yanna ramate tā asya dīkṣāḥ || 3.17.1 ||
1. That he has the desire to eat, the desire to drink, and no desire to indulge in sense pleasures—this is his initiation [i.e., this is how he has to begin practising self-restraint].

Saḥ, he [the person who is performing the puruṣa sacrifice just mentioned]; yat aśiśiṣati, that he wants to eat; yat pipāsati, that he wants to drink; yat na ramate, that he has no desire to indulge in sense pleasure; tāḥ, all these; asya dīkṣaḥ, are the initiation rites [to perform the sacrifice].
