On another day Mathur took Sri Ramakrishna on a boat trip for a view of the city from the Ganges. As they approached the Manikarnika cremation ground, Sri Ramakrishna had a vision. He rushed to the edge of the boat and then went into samadhi. The boatmen were afraid that he would fall and they ran to catch him, but the Master stood there motionless. Mathur and Hriday stood by him without touching him. Sri Ramakrishna later described his vision: The Divine Mother was sitting next to the funeral pyre, untying the knots that bound the soul to the world, while Shiva was whispering in the ear of the departed person a mantra giving immediate liberation. The pandits were amazed when they heard about this vision, which went beyond even the description in the scriptures. (Source: They Lived with Them)
